  • Toby Price wins 2010 A4DE

Motorex KTM Offroad rider, Toby Price has won both the Outright and E2 class at the 2010 Yamaha Australian Four Day Enduro (A4DE) in Portland, NSW.

Price put on a dominant performance in today's final moto to win the event from five time World Champion, Ballard's Wellard Yamaha's Stefan Merriman.  In third place Outright was last year's winner, Motorex KTM's Jarrod Bewley, who also won this year's E1 class.

"I'm really stoked to win here, especially with Stefan Merriman on my tail, last year I played the bridesmaid and now I have finally done it" Price said afterwards. "I now have my sights set on heading to Portugal for a round of the World Enduro Championships, and then the rest of the Australian Off Road Championship."

It was a successful A4DE for the Motorex KTM outfit, with Ben Grabham winning the E3 class following a classic battle with Husaberg-mounted Geoff Braico in the final moto, and Motorex KTM team manager, Brad Williscroft, winning the Vets class.

Heading into the final moto of the Women's class with a half second lead over Jessica Gardiner (Ballard's Wellard Yamaha), Jemma Wilson (Yamaha) grabbed the holeshot and the lead early, only to suffer a heartbreaking crash to surrender the moto, and the A4DE class win to the hard-charging 16-year-old.

In a hotly contested Masters class, enduro legend Geoff Ballard held a slim lead over David Cash heading into the last test, which he worked hard to protect, keeping a persistent Cash at bay throughout the moto.

  • Toby Price moves to the top after A4DE day 3

Motorex KTM's Toby Price has moved into the lead of the 2010 Yamaha Australian 4-Day Enduro.

After 21 special tests, Ballard’s Wellard Yamaha racer Stefan Merriman dropped to second, 30-seconds off the Outright and E2 Class.

Merriman lead the 260-strong field the first two days of the race, which is being held at Portland (near Lithgow, NSW).

A crash in the second enduro special test today cost the 36-year-old WR450F rider 30-seconds, dropping him behind Price for first Outright.

“I was braking, didn’t see a root and it sort of chucked me sideways into a tree,” Merriman said.

“I got my clutch jammed up so I had to sort of fix things before I could get going.

“It cost 30-seconds, so it was a bit of a pain. After that I just tried to beat Toby back, but I didn’t manage to.

“I’ve got the final motocross tomorrow, I’m up against a few good motocrossers so I’ll just try and do my best and see what happens.”

The final motocross and finale of the 32nd annual Yamaha A4DE is being held tomorrow at Clearview on Wallarawang-Rydel Road (Wallarawang).

Another Yamaha rider placed in the top-five of the hotly contested E2 Class is Queenslander ‘King Kirk’ Hutton.

Hutton, 36, came third Outright in today’s second test and finished the day fifth Outright.

“I’ve been having one of my best four-days, if I can finish on the podium in the E2 Class that would be great and I’m close, there’s only a few seconds in it,” Hutton said.

“The YZ450F is awesome and I’m having a blast on it… I’m really happy with how I’m riding – I knew I was riding the YZ450F well, but I didn’t expect to be that fast.

“I’m looking forward to the final MX tomorrow, I love big grass tracks and the final MX is a pearla so I can’t wait.”

    Yamaha A4DE Outright Top-10 (Provisional after Day 3) Toby Price E2 Total time: 1:34:33.570 Stefan Merriman E2 Yamaha 1:35:03.358 Jarrod Bewley E1 1:36:57.453 Daniel Milner E2 1:37:46.282 Ben Grabham E3 1:37:46.475 Kirk Hutton E2 Yamaha 1:37:54.555 Matthew Phillips E1 1:37:58.543 Jason Davis E2 1:38:18.888 Rory Mead E2 Yamaha 1:39:11.835 Geoff Braico E3 1:39:26.299

  • Merriman continues to control the A4DE

Ballard’s Wellard Yamaha racer, Stefan Merriman has continued to extend his lead in both the provisional Outright and E2 class at the 2010 Yamaha Australian Four Day Enduro (A4DE) in Portland, NSW.

The five time World Champion rode smoothly and mistake-free on the mix of grass and bush special tests and now enjoys a substantial 27 second lead over Motorex KTM's Toby Price in second.

"Everything went well and it was a close battle with Toby, he and I have been fighting it out by two or three seconds in each special test," said Merriman. "It's a long race and the biggest fear is having a crash and throwing away 10 or 15 seconds - which neither of us can afford to do. This Four Day is better than any race I've ever done in Australia - the conditions make it."

Price although happy with today's performance is hoping the cards will swing his way." One little tip over is all that it takes to lose a lot of time and that's all part of racing but I am always having fun and there still two more days of racing to go.”

Defending Four Day Outright champion Jarrod Bewley has slipped to 1:05 minutes behind his KTM teammate Price, but still holds a commanding lead in the E1 class over Tasmanian young gun Matt Phillips and Ballard's Wellard Yamaha's Ben Burrell in second and third respectively.

Meanwhile holding down the lead in the E3 class (and fourth Outright) is Motorex KTM's Ben Grabham, 35 seconds ahead of Husaberg's Geoff Braico in second.

The Kiwi contingent of Coastal KTM's Jason Davis and Yamaha's Rory Mead are firmly entrenched within the Outright top ten in seventh and eighth position.

With one more day of hard-fought enduro before the final motocross showdown on day four, there's still plenty of racing and anything can happen.

  • Portland to ignite with Yamaha A4DE

About 260 dirt bike racers and hundreds of supporters and fans will descend on Portland (near Lithgow, NSW) starting this weekend to get ready for next Thursday’s kick-off of the 32nd annual Yamaha Australian 4-Day Enduro (A4DE).

Australia’s fastest off-road racers will spend early next week doing last minute preparations to their bikes, signing on and scrutineering for the race, to be held at Portland (NSW) from April 8th to 11th.

Yamaha A4DE Event Coordinator, Lyn Braico, said the prestigious Yamaha A4DE was an Australian championship race that attracted some of the world’s fastest riders.

“The Yamaha A4DE consists of four days of grueling trail and about seven to eight special test phases a day, equaling a total of about 30 hours and more than 1000kms on the machine. Riders must also complete a final motocross on day four,” she said.

“The A4DE is the second largest of its kind on the globe and contributes more than $1.5 million to the Australian economy annually.

“This year, spectators and fans will be in for a real treat when Australia’s best racers, including Bathurst’s Ben Grabham, try to topple last year’s A4DE Outright winner, Jarrod Bewley of the Motorex KTM Team from Hawkesbury, Sydney.

“Ballard’s Wellard Yamaha will also have a hot favourite in the running, with five-time world Champion, Stefan Merriman, ready to take an A4DE win.”

In the 2010 Yamaha A4DE riders of all skill levels - from Clubman to Pro - from every Australian state (including Tasmania) and New Zealand will be vying for class and Outright honours.

Dozens of riders from the Central West and surrounds will also be competing, including reigning Championship Veteran’s winner, Stuart Bennett (from Orange), Gary Dukes from Lithgow and rising E1 Class star, Ben Burrell (Yamaha), from Parkes.

There is also a state-versus-state element to the event, with the top riders from each state competing on Junior and Senior Trophy Teams.

New South Wales will have Bewley, Merriman, Toby Price and several other top riders fighting in its corner.

Queensland will also have some big talent on its side, with multi-Australian Off-Road Champion, AJ Roberts (from Bribie Island) and four-time Australian Enduro Champion ‘King’ Kirk Hutton from Kobble Creek (Pine Rivers Shire).

Victoria will again have a strong presence, including Blake Hore (from Officer), Peter Boyle (from Stony Creek, Gippsland) and Jehi Willis (from Koo Wee Rup).

The 32nd annual Yamaha A4DE will be held at Portland (near Lithgow, NSW) from April 8th to 11th, 2010.

Spectators are welcome. More info will be available from the event’s staging area located at the Portland Showground, corner of Lime and Laurie St’s, Portland, NSW.

  • Yamaha A4DE entries CLOSE on Thursday

There are only four days left to get your entry in for an event which is being hailed as one for the history books: the 32nd annual Yamaha Australian 4-Day Enduro (A4DE) being held at Portland (NSW) from April 8th to 11th.

The race, being orgainsed by one of the country’s premier enduro clubs: Oyster Bay Motorcycle Club (OBMCC), will truly be “one for the riders”.

No late entries will be accepted. Download supplementary regulations now from www.a4de2010.com.au

One racer especially looking forward to the event is leading Championship E1 Class competitor, Ben Burrell (Ballard’s Wellard Yamaha).

“I live at Parkes, which is pretty close to where it’s being held... we travel a lot over the course of the year, so to have the four-day just down the road will be great,” Burrell said.

“It’s also super exciting because it will be my first A4DE, I’ve been to a few to watch now, but haven’t been old enough to ride one.

“I’ve ridden near where the four-day is being ran and it’s gonna be some good riding.

“I’ve heard a lot about the tracks and it sounds like there’s gonna be heaps of good trail and special tests... I can’t wait to get out on the trails and rip up the tests at the four day.

“Apparently there’s gonna be heaps of fresh trail every day, too, so it will be an awesome event not just for serious racers but also for trail riders who want to be a part of it - the atmosphere at a four-day is awesome.”

A4DE Course Coordinator Rick Braico said riders would enjoy fresh trail every day and a total of eight special tests.

“I encourage everyone who’s been to a four-day or considered it to get your entry in - this will be a great event,” Braico said.

“Four of the tests are grass tracks and four are enduro tests, each will only be ridden four times to ensure they don’t get too rough or worn.

“We’re making the course so riders have an honest day’s ride. When they get off the bike they’ll be tired, but it won’t be impossible.

“It’ll be the way an A4DE is supposed to be: a tough endurance race that most riders can finish and those who do finish will feel a real sense of accomplishment.”

The 32nd annual A4DE will be held at Portland (near Lithgow, NSW) on April 8th to 11th, 2010.

Entries will be capped at 350 riders and close on Thursday (March 25th), supplementary regulations are available from www.a4de2010.com.au.

The event boasts the following classes: E1 (100cc to 150cc 2-Stroke & 150cc to 250cc 4-stroke), E2 (175cc to 250cc 2-stroke & 275cc to 450cc 4-Stroke), E3 (290cc to 500cc 2-stroke & 475cc to 650cc 4-stroke), Veteran's (Over 35-years), Master's (Over 45-years) and Women All Powers.

There is also a state-versus-state, club-versus-club and manufacturer-versus-manufacturer element to the race, with senior, junior and club teams from each state and trade teams going head to head.

The Oyster Bay Motorcycle Club is hosting the event, with assistance from the Central Tablelands Motorcycle Club. The OBMCC is made up of more than 300 enduro-passionate members and is arguably one of the most successful and longest-running enduro clubs in NSW. The Central Tablelands Motorcycle Club host the well-known Sunny Corner Rally, a yearly event which attracts nearly 800 riders.?

The A4DE presentation evening is being held at the Lithgow Ballroom, at the Lithgow Showground.
Time:  6:30 pm for a 7:00 pm start. Please note that a bar service is available on site - definitely NOT BYO.
  • Information Sheet, February 2010

By now the Early Bird Entries have closed, thanks to all of you who have organised yourselves so quickly!  Remember, event entries MUST BE RECEIVED BY Midnight (AEST) March 25, 2010

THERE WILL BE NO LATE INDIVIDUAL ENTRIES ACCEPTED FOR THIS YEAR”S A4DE.

I have had many calls re general information about the A4DE and its course – Great! Good organisation and planning are essential for an event like this one.  Here are answers to the most asked questions!

Course Brief

We have put together a challenging and technical course to ensure a good ride for everyone.  You will be in the saddle for around 7 hours per day for the first three days, through both pine forest and natural Aussie bush.  The general course altitude is approx. 900 metres and has a medium to hard pack, at times pretty rocky, base.   At this point we envisage Day 1 - is its own course, Day 2 - a separate, new course, Day 3 – a blend of the best bits from Days 1 & 2 and Day 4 is a short trail prior to the final moto.  If we get rain – it’s going to be even better!

We have planned 5 Cross Tests which are in open grasslands/paddocks.  There are also 4 Enduro Tests – 3 of which are soft base and one has a shale base.  We recommend that riders look at investing in a set of mousses – especially if you intend to ride the entire event on one set of tyres.  The different terrains of the course and tests may play havoc on tubes and imagine two or three punctures in one section – how long does it take you to change a tube at home in the comfort of your garage with all the tools there?  Out on a trail a puncture can take many, many minutes to repair and a mousse just means one less thing to worry about - it could be the difference in finishing the event or “houring out”!

We hope that rider’s will do 7 - 8 timed tests PER DAY during the event.  Most tests are on private property. Please respect these areas, they have been generously offered to us by the local people of Portland.  You must obey all signs that are posted throughout these tests and please do not leave any rubbish or refuse ANYWHERE in your travels!

Time Controls

There will be 3 - 4 time controls out on the course each day – plus one at the Parc Ferme.  These are all easily accessible by two wheel drive cars and are within approx. 30 minutes from the Parc Ferme.  There will be signage and directions to each control and test – please remember this is an OPEN public forest and I feel that it is never too early to remind everyone that we must all be mindful of speed and safety whilst in Sunny Corner Forest and the surrounding areas.

Parc Ferme – Sign On – Scrutineering – Impound        REMEMBER -  NO CAMPING AT PARC FERME!

Parc Ferme is at Portland Showground, in the middle of town.   Please respect the locals and try to keep noise to a minimum while we are here. The Parc Ferme will be open to “move into” from lunchtime Easter Sunday, 4 April, 2010.  As we have previously stressed – space will be tight on site – so it is important you plan your workspace carefully.  Team up with some mates and share quickshades or perhaps even consider hiring a container for the event.  It’s a safe and easy way to manage your equipment during the A4DE.  Forms for this are at www.a4de2010.com.au under the information tab – container hire and request for space.

Read your event schedule in the Supplementary Regulations carefully and watch the website for updates!

Sign on is from Monday 5/4/10, Scrutineering is ONLY Tuesday 6/4/10, then the bikes are impounded until the event start on Thursday.  Impound is at Portland Showground and whilst every care will be taken to ensure the safety of your bike, they are actually the bike owner’s responsibility whilst at this venue and before, during and after the event – i.e. the bike owner is liable for theft/damage/insurance, not the A4DE organisers or their agents.

Enviro-mats will be on sale at the Parc Ferme prior to the event.  TEAR OFFS ARE PROHIBITED AT THE A4DE

Rookies Information Afternoon

We have found in the past that many rookies need extra guidance when it comes to an A4DE.  Simple things like how many fuel containers will I need? (Only 10 Litre size permitted)  How does a schedule and card work? – all these things take time in a general rider’s briefing.  So, this year we are trialling a Rookie Info. afternoon Monday 5th April, 4:00 – 5:00pm. at the Parc Ferme.  It’s not compulsory, but if this is your first A4DE, or if you just want to come along to brush up on the event and how it works, I would strongly recommend you attend.

Rider’s Briefings – these are compulsory viewing!!

All riders MUST ATTEND 1 rider’s briefing prior to the A4DE.  There are 2 briefings planned.

The first one is on Tuesday 6/4/10 Night at the Portland Golf Club at 7.00 p.m. SHARP.  The Portland Golf Club will be open from about 4pm and there is a small, but sensational Thai Restaurant on site.  The venue only allows for 150 people and although there is no cost to attend the Rider’s Briefing – BOOKINGS ARE ESSENTIAL – email your acceptance to me at rlbraico@bigpond.net.au and it’s strictly first in, first served.

If you miss out on this first session, the second Rider’s Briefing is at the Parc Ferme on Wednesday 7/4/10 at 1.00 p.m. SHARP.  Bookings not required for the second session, but you must attend 1 or the other and be signed off prior to starting the event.

No Briefing – No Ride – Not Negotiable!

Jury Meetings

Jury meetings are for the Event Officials and Jury Delegates only from each state and are held prior to and throughout the A4DE.  These will be held at the Portland R.S.L. which is a block away from the Parc Ferme.  On site at the RSL is a great Chinese Restaurant that will be open for everyone to use during the event.

Presentation Dinner

Will be held at Lithgow at the Civic Ballroom, Lithgow Showground, Sunday night after the final moto.  We are still finalizing all the details, but tickets will be available in the next week or so.  Bookings are essential and it’s a great way to finish off the A4DE – again, keep an eye on the website for more news and ticket information.

Help the locals help us!

The residents and businesses of Portland are being really supportive of the event.  It’s only a small town, but there is a Foodworks (small supermarket with fresh produce, deli, bakery and hot chooks), a really nice butcher, a yummy bakery, a small coffee shop, a post office and small service station, Chinese restaurant at the RSL, Thai at the Golf Club (both do takeaway!) many pubs and a small local Bowling club to have a quiet ale in.

Foodworks have applied to open Easter Sunday for us so everyone can get their last minute goodies there while their riders tinker at the Parc Ferme.  There will also be a canteen at the Parc Ferme and bush catering at the controls and Final Moto.  Please support these local businesses and community groups as the town in general has been doing it a bit tough and the A4DE will bring valuable income into the local community.

  • Riders rev up for Portland Yamaha A4DE

Dirt bike racers from across Australasia and some international champions are chomping at the bit for the 2010 Yamaha Australian 4-Day Enduro (A4DE) being held at Portland, NSW, on April 8th to 11th.

Entries are now open for the iconic event and can be found at www.a4de2010.com.au Early bird (discounted) entries close February 25th.

The Yamaha A4DE is the second largest enduro motorcycle race in the southern hemisphere and attracts some of the fastest and most accomplished enduro riders in the world.

Three hundred and fifty riders will this year line up at Portland (near Lithgow) to battle for national class titles and the Yamaha A4DE Outright crown.

Included in the list of confirmed entrants are five-time world champion, Yamaha’s Stefan Merriman, Australian Off-Road Champion, Toby Price (Motorex KTM) and his teammate and last year’s A4DE Outright winner, Jarrod Bewley.

Several international riders have also shown interest in competing this year. One who has already entered is eight-time American Enduro Champion and Husaberg rider, Mike Lafferty.

Plenty of local enduro racers will also contest the event - Lithgow’s Gary Dukes (of the Sutto’s Husaberg Racing Team) is one who can’t wait for the race.

“I was able to place third at the Orange A4DE last year in the Veteran’s Class, so hopefully I’ll go a few better this year,” Dukes said.

“It’s gonna be a great event and living so close will make it even better. Living only an hour away from last year’s A4DE I thought I was lucky, but this year I’m only 10-minutes away from parc ferme - it will be great to sleep in your own bed and not live out of a suit case.

“I’m really excited about Oyster Bay hosting the event. They give 100 per cent for these type of races and they’ve got some great properties to host special tests.

“We’ve been getting a lot of rain of late, so there should be plenty of moisture in the ground. I know quite a few riders who will have a go of it, I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot more riders turn up for the four day this year.”

Yamaha’s Stefan Merriman (from Nelson’s Bay, NSW), who has not been able to compete in an A4DE since 2007, is equally as excited about the Portland Yamaha A4DE.

“I’m really looking forward to it because I missed out last year with injury, “ Merriman said.

“I enjoy the enduro events and with [Rick Braico] organising the track, I’m sure it will be a good one.

“Competition-wise it’s gonna be a very tough four-day and season. Tougher than last year.

“The younger guys are getting faster... I’ve been riding with Ben Burrell lately and he’s very fast.

“A lot of the top guys have also changed bikes, and there’s a lot of new motivation for everyone... it’s gonna be a good race.”

The 32nd annual A4DE will be held at Portland (near Lithgow, NSW) on April 8th to 11th, 2010.

Entries will be capped at 350 riders, supplementary regulations are now available from www.a4de2010.com.au. Early bird entries ($525.00 per rider or $500.00 with own transponder) will close February 25th. Entries will close March 25th, the non-early-bird entry fee is $590.00 per rider or $565.00 with own transponder.

The Central Tablelands Motorcycle Club host the well-known Sunny Corner Rally, a yearly event which attracts nearly 800 riders.

The OBMCC would like to thank YAMAHA as well as the event’s remaining sponsors: KTM AUSTRALIA, HUSABERG AUSTRALIA, SPORTSCAMERA, PIRELLI TYRES, SUTTO’S M/C, NEWLITE TRAILERS, BALLARD'S OFF-ROAD, MOTUL, METZELER, PRORIDER M/C, MUC-OFF, TRIPLE R M/C, UNIFILTER, WESTERN M/C, KENNY SIGNS & GRAPHICS, NYCON SECURITY GROUP, BARKBUSTERS and HILLS PHOTOGRAPHY.

  • Husaberg USA rider to contest the A4DE

Mike Lafferty, 8-Time American National Enduro Champion is coming Down Under to race our iconic Yamaha Australian Four Day Enduro While details remain scarse (including which class he will contest), Lafferty's inclusion lends an international flavour to this year's Four Day. In the past heavy international hitters such as Finn Juha Salminen and Manxman David Knight have decended to take home our premiere enduro honours, but just how Lafferty will fare remains to be seen. The locals will be faster than ever this year with a number of geniune world-class level riders ready to defend our boarders, including multi-time World Enduro Champion Stefan Merriman.

  • Yamaha announced as naming rights sponsor of Portland A4DE

Yamaha Motor Australia has secured naming rights sponsorship of the 2010 Australian 4-Day Enduro (A4DE) being hosted by the Oyster Bay Motorcycle Club (OBMCC) from April 8th to 11th at Portland, NSW (near Lithgow). OBMCC President Chris Dodd said preparations for the iconic race were on schedule and the club had received tremendous support from the motorcycle industry and riders.

“Everyone’s really excited about the race and we’re working tirelessly to make sure it’s an A4DE for the history books,” Dodd said.

“The industry’s been really supportive and we have a fantastic sponsor line-up: we are very pleased to announce Yamaha has come on board as naming rights sponsor for this year’s event.

“Riders are also showing a lot of interest and enthusiasm and I can assure anyone out there who is keen to experience an A4DE that the trails and special tests at the Portland A4DE will be a blast to ride.”

The OBMCC  team and Central Tablelands Motorcycle Club have been hard at work putting the finishing touches on plans for the event, including mapping out and pre-riding the course and special tests - which are tipped to be some of the best in many years.

The A4DE is one of the world’s biggest and most prestigious enduro motorcycle events and contributes more than $1.5 million annually to the economy of the host area.

Now in its 32nd year, this year’s Yamaha A4DE will see 350 riders (ranging in ability from clubman-level to the country’s elite) battle for the Outright crown and national class titles.

Last year’s A4DE was held at Orange, NSW, and saw Jarrod Bewley take the Outright victory over rookie Toby Price. Bewley will have added competition this year, however, with five-time world champion, Yamaha’s Stefan Merriman, ready to race the A4DE for the first time since 2005.

Merriman, from Nelson’s Bay (NSW), was forced to withdraw from the 2009 A4DE at the last minute after suffering a broken bone in his shoulder at a state championship round.

A4DE Course Coordinator Rick Braico said riders would enjoy fresh trail every day and a total of eight special tests.

“Four of the tests are grass tracks and four are enduro tests, each will only be ridden four times to ensure they don’t get too rough or worn,” Braico said.

Braico said the course would include a “good mix of terrain”, including single track, forest roads and technical (but rideable) sections.

He said the terrain in the area had “a bit of a hardish bottom” and would be shaly in sections. Intermediate tyres would be recommended - “a couple of the tests are in paddocks so should be loamy,” he said.

Competitors and their support crews will also have access to all the creature comforts of home, with the staging area for the race (at Portland) located just 30-minutes drive from Lithgow and 40-minutes from Bathurst.

The 32nd annual A4DE will be held at Portland (near Lithgow, NSW) on April 8th to 11th, 2010.

Entries will be capped at 350 riders, supplementary regulations will be available from www.a4de2010.com.au later this week.

The Yamaha A4DE is the second largest enduro motorcycle race in the southern hemisphere and will attract 350 riders from across Australasia.

Hosting the event is the Oyster Bay Motorcycle Club, assisted by Central Tablelands Motocycle Club. The OBMCC is made up of more than 300 enduro-passionate members and is arguably one of the most successful and longest running enduro clubs in NSW. Central Tablelands Motocycle Club are the hosts of the famous Sunny Corner Rally, the yearly event that attracts nearly 800 riders.

The OBMCC would like to thank YAMAHA as well as the event’s remaining sponsors: KTM AUSTRALIA, HUSABERG AUSTRALIA, SPORTSCAMERA, PIRELLI TYRES, SUTTO’S M/C, NEWLITE TRAILERS, PRORIDER M/C, MUC-OFF, TRIPLE R M/C, UNIFILTER, WESTERN M/C, BARKBUSTERS, HILLS PHOTOGRAPHY, KENNY SIGNS and NYCON SECURITY.

  • A4DE Helpers Please!

Hi All,

The Australian Four Day Enduro (April 8 - 11, 2010) is going to be held at Portland, near Lithgow in the second week of the April school holidays.

So, this means it's only 11 weeks until the A4DE and we have already had quite a few people offer to help in the running of the event.  However, we need approx. 100 volunteers each day - YES - that's One Hundred people EVERY DAY - to help us out over the four days in April.

Not everyone can be a sweep, not everyone wants to be a sweep - so don't panic if you can't ride or don't have a bike at the moment .... you can help in so many other ways!

We need people to help out at the time controls, at the special tests, at the parc ferme (Portland Showground) and people to help set up before and others to help pack up tests, bunting etc. afterwards.   We may even need some young mums to help look after the ferals for other young mums who are helping throughout the event.   Even if you can only help one day - that's a start!

Don't worry if you have never helped out before, no problem...We will be having a training day from 9.00 a.m. on Saturday, 27 March, 2010 at a central location yet to be booked.  On this day we will be going through procedures for time controls and special tests and offer a general overall briefing on how the whole A4DE works.

This is OBMCC's biggest ever event and the whole enduro fraternity is expecting a great A4DE from us.  Help us make this happen so that in year's to come, everyone will remember THE race at Portland!

Please download and complete the Volunteer Register and send it back to me ASAP.

Thanks!

A4DE Event Co-ordinator

As in previous years, six metre shipping containers are being made available at the 2010 A4DE at Kramer Park Portland (Portland Showground).  Our experience with Oyster Bay MCC is that we normally run up to 10 riders from each container, sometimes 11 or more if you are happy to be more friendly.

Space in the Paddock will be tight, with a hired container space being approximately 10m deep by 6m wide.  Everyone is reminded there is no camping in the Kramer Park area.

Containers must be ordered and paid for by Wednesday 10th March 2010 to enable time for us to coordinate with the supplier.

Pease download the Container Form and send it in.

Contact Don Atkins for any further information on containers or Parc Ferme.

  • A4DE for Rookies  (and other information you need to know!)

Well, the A4DE is fast approaching and I am receiving lots of phone calls about how the event runs and what you need to enter the event.

First, please read the Enduro and Reliability Trials section (pages 216 – 232 incl.) of the Motorcycling Australia 2010 Manual of Motorcycle Sport (MOMS) rulebook.  If you hold a current MA License you should have received a copy recently, otherwise log onto http://www.ma.org.au/AM/Template.cfm?Section=General_competition_rules&Template=/CM/ContentDisplay.cfm&ContentFileID=59234 .  Read the whole chapter – it explains enduro first then the A4DE rules and classifications.

Also brush up on the All Disciplines section in the MOMS as well ( pages 91 – 105 incl.) for general rules about motorcycling sport.

Soon the Supplementary Regulations and Entry Forms will be published.  The Supplementary Regs have additional information specific to the 2010 A4DE, over and above the MOM's rules as listed above.  You must read these carefully as they will give you the schedule of “early bird entries”, normal entries, other deadlines for the event and event procedures.

  • Newsletter 1 - 19 Nov 2009

Oyster Bay Motorcycle Club is in the planning stages of organising the Australian Four Day Enduro – the A4DE. This is the premier event for enduro motorcycling in Australia and will be run in the Portland/Sunny Corner area of NSW, approx. two hours west of Sydney near Lithgow, between April 8 – 11, 2010.

The event starts at Portland Showground each day for the four days of competition and ventures out on a new route every day, returning back to the showground in the afternoon. The A4DE trail sections are planned to run in, and around, the Sunny Corner State Forest, and we have also secured many private properties for special tests and the final moto, so the course should be varied and technical.

The organising committee for the A4DE includes members from the Motorcycling Australia Enduro Commission, OBMCC, Central Western riders and various other personnel who have many years experience at both the A4DE and ISDE. We aim to hold an event “for enduro riders by enduro riders”.

We will be limiting the A4DE to 350 entries and have had interest from some international enduro riders already! Accommodation for the event will be available in the Lithgow and Bathurst Areas as Portland is approx. halfway between these two towns. There is limited space at the Portland Showground, so there will be NO camping available at the Parc Ferme! Please contact Kellie at Lithgow Tourism Centre - www.tourism.lithgow.com or phone her on 1300 76 02 76 for all accommodation bookings and information on where to camp etc..

To ride this event you must hold a valid M.A. National License, RTA Motorcycle License, have a registered bike and comply with the A4DE regulations as per the M.A. Manual of Motorcycle Rules (Chapter 25 - Enduro and Reliability section). See the www.ma.org.au website – General Competition Rules - for more details.

Soon we will be publishing the supplementary regulations and encouraging Early Bird Entries. Additional information will be available on the A4DE website a4de2010.com.au which will be regularly updated with news and information. We also plan to have a “A4DE for beginners” section with helpful tips and information for rookies and enthusiasts.

If you want to volunteer at the A4DE, either by helping with the control points, tests or as a sweep rider, please contact us asap to place yourself on the Volunteer roster.

All correspondence at this stage should be directed to Lyn Braico, A4DE Co-ordinator, by either email rlbraico@bigpond.net.au. Fax 02 9487 8055 or on my mobile 0422 580 922.

Looking forward to a great event,

    Lyn B.

  • 2010 A4DE announcement - 21 Oct 2009

Motorcycling Australia (MA) would like to announce that the 2010 Australian Four Day Enduro (A4DE) will be organised by a Committee consisting of members of the Oyster Bay Motorcycle Club, the MA Enduro Commission and will receive support from a number of local New South Wales Motorcycle Clubs.

The 2010 A4DE will be held from 8-11 April and will be based at Portland, NSW, which is situated between Lithgow and Bathurst to the west of the Blue Mountains.

With promoters, Dirt Bike Promotions, deciding not to continue to run the event, the organisation of the A4DE by this Committee is an interim measure designed to give MA time to advertise for expressions of interest for a promoter to run the event in 2011 and beyond.

MA’s Enduro Commission Chairman, Collin Jennings, said that the Committee was already working hard to ensure that the 2010 A4DE was on-track for April.

“The A4DE Committee has pledged to maintain the high standard of organisation and professionalism which Dirt Bike Promotions brought to the sport,” Jennings said.

“The committee is already working hard acquiring permissions to use private properties for special tests, dealing with all the underlying administrative issues, and gaining support from the industry.

“It is intended that MA will then draw up a contract and let a tender to a suitable promoter to ensure the future of this long running event.”

Further information regarding the 2010 A4DE will be release as soon as it becomes available
